These days the family bakery has most of my time, well that, my children & my girlfriend, there really isn’t very much room for much. Occasionally, I have the need to create but lack the idea because my mind is filled with deadlines, compliance necessities, quality control, government requirements, etc. I didn’t have to think twice about this one idea as I have been thinking for a time of doing black and white and/or returning to the very basics, shooting film, etc. I even brought out my trusty TLR, the Yashicaflex and my Nikon F3!
There was a time a friend of mine, another photographer debated the merits of 2 and a quarter square and the 6X7 format. I preferred the square format from the Hasselblad and he preferred the 6X7 Mamiya’s. The back and forth continued both having its merits as well as its downfalls. Bottom line they both had their applications and at the end of the day it, like your favorite kind of ice cream depended on preferences. It was this idea that bore forth this series. I shot Lirone, Athena & my girlfriend of course, Anna over the weekend just some quick shots and I fell in love all over again with the square format! Because I didn’t have the Hasselblad readily available I made do with what I had my Fujifilm XPro-1 and my Nikon D300s and of course Lightroom and Photoshop to create the idea of a square format!
